Lots of people have high blood pressure, which is also called hypertension, and while there are many causes and risk factors, the only way to be sure if you have this condition is to have your blood pressure checked regularly. One single cause has not be identified for high blood pressure but there are a variety of factors that make it more likely. In this article, we’ll be examining some of the conditions that can cause high blood pressure.

While usually not severe, pregnant women often experience high blood pressure. When blood pressure rises suddenly and to extreme levels during a pregnancy, this is called preeclampsia, and this can be a dangerous condition for both the mother and the baby. This can happen to women with no history of hypertension but women who had high blood pressure before becoming pregnant are at a greater risk. For this reason, it’s important for women who are pregnant to have their blood pressure monitored.

Unfortunately, however, as obesity increases in younger people, we are now seeing high blood pressure develop at earlier ages lately. That’s why it’s a good idea to get regular checkups where your blood pressure is checked, especially if you are middle aged or older. Many of your everyday activities, such as how you eat, and if you smoke, can also influence your blood pressure. Stress is another common cause of high blood pressure. Many people today lead busy lives and work long hours, but it’s more about how you process and respond to what’s going on than what you are actually doing. Don’t let your Type A personality get in the way of learning to relax and let things roll off your back. Greater risk of high blood pressure comes from being stressed, angry or tense all the time. Your own emotions can affect you physically, emotionally and psychologically. Reducing the stressors and learning to relax can help you lower your blood pressure significantly.

It’s a fact that some types of food can contribute to high blood pressure. Salt for example is known for causing hypertension. However, many nutritionists believe that lots of other foods, such as most junk foods, sugar and unhealthy fats can all contribute to high blood pressure as well. You will be more likely to avoid needing medication for hypertension by changing the way you eat. Changing your diet is worth the effort.

While many factors can cause high blood pressure, the important thing is to watch it and take steps to lower it. As long as you watch your blood pressure and listen to your doctor’s recommendations, you should be able to keep it under control. There are many factors that can cause high blood pressure, such as the ones discussed above. There is no reason you can’t lower your blood pressure, you just have to be willing to do whatever is necessary when it comes to making beneficial changes in your life.
